About
![]() Probably my first photography-related memory is of being awarded the photography badge as a cub scout about thirty years ago! There was a real magic in seeing prints (I think they were of trees) appear in the darkroom, on paper that you could get wet without ruining it. Photography remained an interest until around ten years ago, and after buying my first digital camera – a 1MP model – taking photographs quickly became an obsession to the extent that I’m taking between twenty and thirty thousand photos a year, the equivalent of over fifty photos every day! As happens to most photographers, I was asked to shoot my first wedding as a favour for someone I knew in 2004, and although nervous beforehand, really enjoyed the experience. Some of the guests at that wedding were also due to be married and booked me when they saw the results, and that’s typically how I’ve got my commercial work, through word of mouth … In 2005 I felt I wanted some discipline in my work and to learn more about studio portraiture, so I studied photography at Aylesbury College, where I learned to work to a brief and to think of myself as a ‘photographer’, not just someone who likes taking photos. I gained an ‘A’ at A level which was followed in 2006 by achieving Licentiateship of both the Royal Photographic Society and the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers. I still get a massive buzz from taking a photograph that I’m happy with – a portrait that looks into the sitter’s soul, a wedding image that shows some real emotion, or a performance photo that captures the essence and passion of the singer, musician or actor. I also love the challenge of achieving studio quality results in decidedly un-studio-like conditions, in cramped spaces or on location – something which allows me to be more flexible with customers as to where we shoot. I’m proud of the fact that none of the photos on this website were taken in a studio - this profile picture was taken in a kitchen, for example … Finally, I am CRB checked, valid until July 2011. Thanks for looking at my work, at my passion … |
